Mandee Luers- Owner and Pitching Instructor

Hi everyone! My name is Mandee Luers, and I am the owner and primary instructor at Make the Change Fastpitch! Make the Change Fastpitch is located at 742 Canton Rd Akron.  I am available for private pitching lessons, group or team lessons, clinics, and camps.

 

 

I attended Dover High School in Dover, OH, and after pitching four years for the Tornadoes I committed to play softball at Marshall University in Huntington, WV. While at Marshall I received my Bachelor's Degree in Sport Management and Marketing. After my four years of eligibility had ended at Marshall, I moved to Nashville, TN and while pursing my Master's Degree in Sport Administration, I was a graduate assistant coach at Belmont University.

 

After Belmont, I got my first Division 1 pitching coach position at IPFW in Fort Wayne, IN. During my first season at IPFW I coached the Summit League Pitcher of the Year. I was at IPFW for three seasons in total and during those three seasons the team had an overall record of 102-48-1, which was at that time the best three seasons in school history. After three seasons with IPFW, I left to be the pitching coach at Kent State, but not before I had coached the pitching staff to the best ERA in the Summit League 2 of the 3 years and during my final season the 15th best ERA in the nation at 1.69 with all three Mastodon pitchers ranked in the top 75.

 

During my two seasons at Kent State (2013-14) I worked not only with the pitching staff, but also the catchers. At Kent State I was fortunate enough to coach the 2013 MAC Pitcher of the Year as well as a 2nd Team All MAC Pitcher. During my second season at Kent State our pitching staff led the MAC in ERA, shutouts, and least home runs given up. 

Following my second season at Kent, I decided to pursue a dream and goal I have had for a long time and start my own business!

When instructing my main focus is treating the pitch as a whole fluid movement. My goal is for the pitcher to understand how to make adjustments as well as why movements are happening as they are. I utilize video in every lesson and have Rapsodo Pitching 2.0 in order to help the pitcher understand her ball flight data. As with any skill nothing is instant, but with practice and hard work I am confident that every girl will see improvement!
